Sustainability Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Our commitment
Clark Strategic’s mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable, resilient healthcare. We recognise that how we run our own business should reflect the changes we encourage across the sector.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, using resources responsibly and considering environmental and social factors in our business decisions. This policy guides how we deliver assignments, travel, purchase goods and services, and work with others.
Remote working and service delivery
We will make remote delivery our starting point when designing assignments, using virtual meetings, online workshops and collaborative tools wherever these can achieve the required outcomes effectively.
We will discuss delivery arrangements with clients at the outset, identifying where an in-person presence adds sufficient value to justify travel. We will consider accessibility, participation and the quality of the work alongside environmental impact.
We also recognise that digital working uses energy and resources. We will extend the life of our equipment, avoid unnecessary purchases and manage digital files and storage responsibly.
Travel and transport
We will seek to avoid journeys where effective remote alternatives are available.
Where travel is necessary, we will:
Prioritise walking, cycling and public transport, taking account of safety and accessibility.
Choose rail over air travel wherever reasonably practicable, including for suitable European journeys.
Avoid flights for mainland UK business travel where a viable rail alternative exists.
Use air travel only where the purpose cannot reasonably be achieved remotely or through a lower-impact journey.
Plan trips to combine activities and reduce repeat journeys, where this produces an overall benefit.
Favour direct routes where practicable.
We will record business travel, including the reason for flights, and review opportunities to reduce travel-related emissions.
Sustainable purchasing and suppliers
Before purchasing, we will consider whether the product or service is needed and whether existing resources, repair, reuse, borrowing or refurbishment could meet the requirement.
When buying goods, we will adopt a circular economy approach and prioritise durability, repairability, energy efficiency, reduced packaging and responsible end-of-life options. We will consider the costs and impacts over the product’s useful life.
When selecting suppliers and professional partners, we will consider:
Relevant environmental policies, credible commitments and evidence of progress.
Responsible use of energy, materials and other resources.
Fair employment practices, ethical conduct and respect for human rights.
Transparency about environmental performance and claims.
Our assessment will be proportionate to the nature and scale of the purchase. We will use credible independent certifications as supporting evidence where relevant, while recognising that smaller suppliers may demonstrate good practice in other ways.
We will review significant suppliers when contracts are renewed and raise concerns where their practices appear inconsistent with our commitments.
Energy, materials and waste
We will use energy and water efficiently in the spaces where we work and consider environmental performance when choosing equipment, workspace and energy services within our control.
We will work digitally where practical, print only when needed and choose recycled or responsibly sourced paper.
We will prioritise preventing waste, followed by reuse and repair, and recycle remaining materials through appropriate services. Electronic equipment will be reused or recycled responsibly, with personal and confidential information securely removed.
Where we organise meetings or events, we will minimise disposable materials, favour plant-based catering and seek to prevent food waste.
The work we undertake
We will bring sustainability and resilience into our advice where relevant to the assignment, considering practical implications and potential trade-offs.
We will support research, innovation and the responsible sharing of knowledge to help advance sustainable healthcare.
Our environmental communications will be clear and supported by evidence. We will distinguish between ambitions, actions taken and demonstrated results.
Responsibility and review
Will Clark, Director of Clark Strategic, is responsible for implementing this policy. We will share relevant expectations with collaborators and agree how they apply to work undertaken for Clark Strategic.
Each year, we will review business travel, significant purchases and progress against these commitments, identify priority improvements and update this policy where needed.
We welcome questions and suggestions at hello@clarkstrategic.co.uk.
Next review: October 2027.
